Raised by his father, he also became one of the principal disciples of Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche and Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Pema Wangyal Rinpoche came to the West for the first time in 1975 and subsequently settled in the Dordogne with his family. So as to fulfill the wishes of his father, he created three retreat centers where, under the aegis of Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche and Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, he directed several traditional three-year retreats. These retreats are continuing under the aegis of Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche, still under the direction of Pema Wangyal Rinpoche. Pema Wangyal Rinpoche is also the founder of Editions Padmakara, which publishes excellent translations of reference works for Buddhist students and practitioners.
